COVID-19

Coronavirus updates – for Sports Centre customers

Update 19th January 2022

Following the First Minister’s update on Covid-19 on Tuesday, 18th January, the restrictions introduced to combat the Omicron variant are to be removed. Therefore, we will be able to re-start adult indoor contact sports from Monday, 24 January 2022. Another significant change (again from Monday 24th January) is there is no requirement for 1 metre distancing between groups/ people in public places.

Whilst the latest announcement is positive and much welcomed we must continue to take action to protect the safety of our customers and employees. So please help by:

  • Continuing to comply with the face-covering regulations
  • Wash / sanitise your hands regularly and cover your nose and mouth if coughing or sneezing
  • Give people space when using our facilities
  • Clean your equipment before and after use
  • Don’t visit if you feel unwell
  • Do regular lateral flow tests

Many thanks for your ongoing co-operation.

What we are doing to keep you safe

In order to make the Centre as safe as possible, we have made some changes to our facilities and how they operate. Our selection of changes have been guided by industry and Government experts, including, UK Active, the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland. The changes also enable us to continue to comply with local government advice and guidelines in regards to personal hygiene and social distancing.

Safety measures that we have put in place are:

  • We are cleaning and disinfecting our facilities with an enhanced cleaning process, using detergent and disinfectant to sanitize all gym equipment.
  • We have protective screens at our reception desk and have provided the Sports team with PPE.
  • We supply disinfectant spray and disposable hand towels so that members can clean the equipment before and after use.
  • There are hand sanitizing stations available throughout the Centre.

Here’s a reminder of the changes to the facilities and our services:

Fitness Suite

The Fitness Suite is open throughout our opening hours and there is no need to book a time to use it.  We ask that you check in at the reception desk before making your way up to the gym. This will allow us to log your visit on our system and ensure that we are compliant with Test and Protect protocols set out by the Scottish Government.

The busy times within the gym is usually from Monday to Thursday from 5pm – 8.30pm.  If you prefer to work out when it’s a little quieter, you may prefer to avoid these times.

Please remember to give other gym users as much space as possible when exercising. You are required to continue to practice good hygiene by wiping down any equipment that you use before and after use with the spray and paper towels that have been provided.

Weights Room

The capacity for the free weights room has been increased to two people per session.  Please book your space in advance via our online booking system or by emailing sportsreception@qmu.ac.uk

Please check in for your session at the sports reception and a member of the team will open the room for you.

Again, we ask that you give each other as much room as possible when using the area.  Please remember to wipe down each piece of equipment that you use and return all weights and bars to the appropriate racks.

Fitness Classes

All of the fitness classes will now take place in the Studio. Classes can be booked via our online booking system or by emailing sportsreception@qmu.ac.uk

Sports Hall

The Sports Hall is now available to book for all organised and recreational activities.

Face Coverings

As per government guidance, we ask that you continue to wear a face covering when entering the Centre and when moving through the corridors.  You don’t need to wear a face covering whilst exercising.

Lockers

Please use the lockers provided to store personal belongings and avoid taking bags into the gym. All lockers in both changing rooms and in the corridors are now available to use.

We will update you as and when we make further changes and we hope you enjoy your next visit to the Centre.
